Sean Carroll, CalTech theoretical cosmologist and blogger at CosmicVariance, is trying to cast off the stigma of nerdiness and calls for social graces by nerdy scientists - see this recent post. Despite the title “social” scientist – what I have observed at conferences, among colleagues, and, simply my own need to be alone with my ideas, books, and articles – it seems physicists don’t have a corner on nerdiness or the lack of social graces.
