Courtesy of Political Science weblog, the Quarterly Journal of Political Science has just published a paper showing that Democrats are big supporters of the designated hitter rule. My preference: No dh, every person’s gotta pull their weight. You don’t see me using a “designated blogger” while I’m doing research.

I don’t like the DH because having a pitcher hit allows for more strategy (e.g. hit-and-run, bunting, etc.). The American League is more about big bats while the National League is more about small-ball strategy. The latter is much more fun to watch.

I think Dems like the DH because of a latent desire to see obscenely wealthy baseball players get beaned. Or, maybe they like the DH because it provides job security for the elderly.
