metanomics 101: the political economy of virtual worlds
Teppo
Since O&M had a post on it (see here) — here’s the 101 on “metanomics” (virtual lecture on the “Second Life Cable Network”), specifically the introductory lecture to a Johnson Graduate School of Management course at Cornell by Robert Bloomfield. Questions of property rights, regulation, governance, community, social order etc get introduced in the lecture (and, ‘tested’ and discussed in these virtual worlds) - interesting.
Watch for posts on other matters of social theory and virtual worlds in the future: the setting provides an opportunity for interesting, large-scale quasi-experiments, of sorts. (And, watch for Fabio’s avatar, vintage leather fanny-pack and all.)
Teppo, I have repeatedly offered to trade my fanny pack for your i-phone.
