ferret lovers unite
Silly comment of the week: “I find your ‘article’ somewhat offensive! Ferrets make great pets, and who cares if they have there own magazine? So does basically every other animal on our planet. I have a ferret, i have had him for four years, and id never go back to a cat or a dog. They are very much good, and nice pets. Your basically a jerk.” Kayla, have you read Alpacas magazine? You don’t know what fun is until you’ve hanged with an alpaca.
Fabio: What’s with your ferrets post — its now beating out the dolls one; and, looks like its alpacas next. Hmm, a blog for lovers of quirky pets and orgs (presumably with little niche overlap).

Ferret-lovers are the Ron Paul supporters of the pet world.
(That ought to bring in some more traffic.)

Thank you, Kieran. I’ve been searching for years for a pithy put down of the ferret people. That’ll do.
Teppo: I promise to keep all alpaca posts to what is absolutely necessary!!

My ex-husband had a ferret and I married into quasi-ownership of it. We co-existed for 4 years until I accidentally killed it in a tragic household accident. While I never really liked the thing, and would never live with another one, I can’t help but feel a little bad for the critters (which I’m sure is just a result of the guilt I’m carrying around with me).

Jess, I’m sorry but that second sentence made me laugh out loud.

I laughed when I read “We co-existed for 4 years until I accidentally killed it [the ferret] in a tragic household accident.” Tragic household accident?? Sorry, Jessica, but that’s very “Spinal Tap.”

It’s okay to laugh about it. Many people have. It’s one of those things that I’ll never live down.

Any thoughts on guniea pigs? We’re thinking about them for our kids.

Yes. So, its a pet and a FEMA-approved dual-purpose emergency response asset. (For the horrified, Guniea pigs are eaten in the Andean highlands)

[...] And, don’t expect us to respond anytime soon by adding a “goats” or “animals and society” category. That said, I am afraid that Fabio may have an alpaca sequel in the works, to follow the ferret series. [...]
