quantified self
There’s lots that is nutty about the Quantified Self movement. But I love it nonetheless. Here’s the blog, Quantified Self.
And, here’s an example of someone who carefully tracked social interactions, for years.

What I find interesting in this talk is the (anecdotal?) connection between social interaction and individual productivity.

We call the firm an artificial individual when it is incorporated. We personify the White House and General Motors, as if each speaks with one voice. Here is an individual with firm-like numbers and processes. I am not sure what the lesson is, but the event is fascinating to watch.
(Offhand: how much time did he spend tracking his interactions?… tracking his tracking…)

… perhaps more interesting from the same site, ahead of the link, this, about monitoring other people’s metabolisms from a distance:
“Ted Punt talks about a device developed by TNO (Dutch Institute for Applied Science) to measure vital signs from people at a distance of up to 10 meters. Heart rate, body motion, and respiration are measured continuously and wirelessly with this device, which should be on the market within a year. He goes into some technical detail and shows prototype video clips in the talk below.”
I predict that brain functions will soon be read, as well: you will know what someone is feeling – and thinking about – from 10 meters away.
