charges of plagiarism in org theory

Two Danish scholars rather ambitiously take on top org theorist Karl Weick and charge him with plagiarism – see this post. The original article making the charges and Karl Weick’s very sensible response are both published in the latest issue of a journal called ephemera.

Maybe the Danish guys what’s his name and watchumacallit would have something to get all perklempt about if they had showed that Weick had plagiarized the stuff that we all read him for (i.e. the idea of loose coupling) rather than some obscure example from an equally obscure poem. I must add that you couldn’t make up a better name for the journal in which this non-brouhaha was published. Maybe they will come up with their next expose of a major org scholar and publish it in the forthcoming issue of Inconsequentia, volume 5 issue 3.

Hi guys, it’s always nice to have readers. Lots of stuff to talk about here, but you don’t give me very much to go on. Weick’s response was basically to deny that there is talk of plagiarism. Teppo says it’s “sensible”. Omar (I think) grants that this is a case of plagiarism but that he doesn’t really care about the story of the map, so why not let Weick have it? Teppo agrees, leaving me wondering whether he thinks Omar’s or Weick’s interpretation is the right one.
Yes, please *do* note the tension between thinking of us as a couple of “ambitiously” “perklempt” Danes and the lighthearted irony of the name of the journal we chose to publish in it. Have some fun with this one. My comment field is open too.
