Hello, Marginal Revolution readers and welcome to orgtheory.net – your source for daily insights into management theory, sociology, economics, and whatever else we find interesting! In the spirit of Tyler Cowen, who linked to us today, here’s a fun trivia question about classical music: Who was Glenn Gould’s favorite composer?

Look under the fold for the answer:

Orlando Gibbons! I learned that surprising tidbit and a lot more about Gould and his career by watching the enjoyable DVD Glenn Gould – The Alchemist. Fun question for the comments: what other famous musicians have unusual or unexpected inspirations?

  1. Not in music, but painting, Picasso surprisingly was inspired by Velazquez – see these two paintings (the bottom of the Velazquez wiki entry also notes Velazquez’s influence on Bacon and Dali).
