institutions and entrepreneurship

I’m in Ithaca for a couple of days and, true to expectations, it has been raining most of the day. It’s a beautiful little town though, and I appreciate all of the green.

I’m here for a conference on institutions and entrepreneurship, sponsored by Cornell and McGill University. The presentations and discussion have been really interesting. You can download the conference papers here (just click on the paper’s title). For the sociologist types I recommend Martin Ruef’s paper on the “making of an entrpreneurial class.” For the strategy folks, check out Sherry Alvarez’s and Jay Barney’s paper on “discovery and creation opportunities.” See Teppo’s earlier post on “opportunity discovery.”
