Abbott’s paper finally finds a home

This post has two purposes: (1) to introduce you to a pretty interesting new publishing project coming out of Italy: Sociologica: Italian Journal of Sociology on line is a new peer reviewed web-only journal, published in English and Italian by a group of Italian sociologists. The first two issues have featured a pretty nice lineup of Anglophone contributors (Peter Hedstrom, Michael Burawoy, John Goldthorpe, Andrew Abbott), and hopefully they’ll keep it up. The format is a little unorthodox for sociology, with the lead articles followed by a series of short comments from other prominent people (kind of like Current Anthropology or Behavioral and Brain Sciences) and a response by the author. (2) To tell you that Abbott’s paper on mechanisms versus relations (which Brayden mentioned a while back) has finally found a home in Sociologica, so it no longer counts as “unpublished.” Access is free, so all you have to do is register.

  1. Great stuff. I really like that the format of the journal specifies dialogue between the authors and discussants (essentially). Teppo wrote an earlier post praising this format.
