sunday morning links – silly animal edition
It baffles me, but some folks dress up their pet ferret. It’s even more baffling that you can own ferrets as pets. They are the silliest animal one can have as a pet:
- They have their own magazine – Ferrets magazine.
- If you think your ferret is a hipster, I might suggest the competitor – “Modern Ferret – The Lifestyle Magazine.”
- Here is a youtube clip of a game best described as “ferret toss.” You can fling more than one at a time.
- Ferrets are illegal to own in some states. For some strange reason, California “ferret rights” activists have tried to get their way by running on the libertarian party ticket.
- The New York City ferret ban sparked a nasty argument between Rudy Giuliani and a ferret social movement activist. Tucker Carlson mocks Giuliani’s ferret rage. A satirical commercial about the incident.
- There is a PBS documentary: “Ferrets: The Pursuit of Excellence.” Here’s a clip of people dressing up their ferrets in Hawaiian clothes. Another clip about ferret funeral rituals.
’nuff said.
Update: Here’s a clip of the leader of New York’s “Ferret’s Rights Advocacy” talking about his confrontation with Giuliani.

I find your “article” somewhat offensive! Ferrets make great pets, and who cares if they have there own magazine? So does basically every other animal on our planet. I have a ferret, i have had him for four years, and id never go back to a cat or a dog. They are very much good, and nice pets. Your basically a jerk.

what are you talking about “It’s even more baffling that you can own ferrets as pets.” NEWSFLASH!! they are the third most popular pet in the u.s. they are better than dogs and cats (dogs get boring when they are old and cats are way too independent…. thats annoying!) the fact that they have a magezine is completely irrelavent. every animal has a magezine. especially endangered ones.

ok…ferrets are illegal where i live, but that’s ok…i think they’re interesting little animal, but i’m not sure about pet suitability because they are so very delicate and prone to disease and cancers, hence extremely expensive in veterinary care.
every individual is entitled to an opinion and what i find offensive is not the opinion of the writer, but the feedback received from the two above replies. both of these attacked the writer and did not put forward any argument more intelligent than ‘dog are boring when old’. that a pet owner would even say that about an animal is baffling – most animals (people included) slow down when they get old. it’s the way of things and no animal should be judged by the way it ages.
lastly – and this is primarily aimed at the young lady who first responded – if you wish to come across as an intelligent, reasonable being capable of a competent argument either complete your grammar homework or use a spell-checker before submitting your responses. mistakes only undermine your argument and support your opponent.

@ first and third posts:
You are both being completely ignorant of the writer’s opinion. People’s opinions differ, its the natural order of things. Who do you think you are to criticize someone’s opinion on a matter, without providing a more substantial argument than “cats are way too independent…, thats annoying”. Once again, being annoyed is a form of opinion, and has absolutely no grounds for use in an argument.
@fourth post:
Who do YOU think you are criticizing their grammar when I fail to see any capitalization in your post? Grammar has nothing to do with arguments, because it all sounds the same when you are sitting in front of a jury crying about your opinions and such nonsense.
I find it sad when a 16 year old can completely dislodge an adult’s “argument”
On a side note, I own a ferret. I have owned him for 2 years. He has yet to get sick with anything, so the only money I have put into him is for his food and water, and new cage.
