some cool things the academy of management is doing this year

As noted by Fabio, the Academy of Management (AOM) conference starts this week in Chicago.  The AOM is doing some cool new things this year:

  1. AOM has just created a new “AOM connect” feature which provides an interesting platform for various things: meeting new people, sharing research ideas, creating groups, blog-ish and facebook-ish features, etc.
  2. Very cool — some of the symposia and sessions from the conference will be available as pod/video casts after the conference, the “AOM Live Learning Center.”
  3. As always, the AOM conference program of course — with excellent search tools — is available online.
  4. Thankfully, the conference now cuts off on Tuesday, rather than carrying into Wednesday late morning.  Getting a Wednesday presentation slot was always a bummer anyways, since most folks have dissipated by then.
  5. You can follow AOM on twitter, at AOMConnect.
  6. Other perennial AOM favorites?  I love the pre-conference professional development workshops (PDWs) — things are just a bit more relaxed and there generally is more time for meaningful discussion and interaction; the parties can be fun; catching up with friends (on research, gossip — who has moved where, and whatever); any good symposia or panels.

  1. Creating networks to conduct organization research? Very meta…

  2. Meta indeed.

BTW: Are there any blogger parties this year — anything being coordinated? Perhaps there’s no need: people will bump into each other at all the usual spots (OMT/BPS receptions, etc); and of course CVs blogging PDW provides a natural place to touch base.

  3. Teppo — good question. Socializing Finance blog is hosting informal drinks on Monday 9th at the Lobby lounge of the Montreal Hyatt, from 6:45 pm to 8:15 pm. Welcoming management researchers interested in finance — and anyone who cares to show up.

See below for finance-related presentations at the Academy:

  4. Ahh, those “anti-performativists.” :)

Thanks for posting an interesting list of sessions.
