I voted for item 2. However, I believe there is a problem with the question design, insofar as evolutionary psychology is not a useful method for identifying evolved traits. Perhaps the field has moved on, but isn’t evolutionary psychology mostly a form of speculation about the putative evolutionary origins about presumed differences between social categories (differences that often have no empirical foundation)?

This article (free to access) gives an excellent introduction to the subject.
Initial conditions, anyone?

Rosemary Hopcroft has a new intro text that highlights the interface between sociology and biological and life sciences. Actually doesn’t spend too much time on evolutionary psychology: http://www.amazon.com/Sociology-Biosocial-Introduction-Rosemary-Hopcroft/dp/1594518017%3FSubscriptionId%3DAKIAJASE6HSSVXTNREYQ%26tag%3Dsmtfx1-20%26linkCode%3Dxm2%26camp%3D2025%26creative%3D165953%26creativeASIN%3D1594518017

I was moved to comment on a particular case of evolutionary psychology on my blog recently: http://permut.wordpress.com/2010/03/02/depressions-upside/

I don’t find it surprising at all. The readership of both blogs is very different.
