fashion, culture and narrative in organization theory: links

It cuts both ways – so, fashion should seemingly apply to organization theory as well.  Here’s Alfred Kieser talking about the issue:

.

Here’s the paper: Bort, S. & Kieser, A. 2011. Fashion in Organization Theory: An Empirical Analysis of the Diffusion of Theoretical Concepts. Organization Studies.

Somewhat related stuff (it appears to be from the same conference, also on youtube): Barbara Czarniawska discusses institutional entrepreneurship and narratives.

More generally, narrative (and stories) appear to be getting lots of attention in recent organizational scholarship.  Here’s a set of articles published in Organization Science that relate to the topic (the first half dozen are directly in this space, with key word “narrative” or “story,” published in OS during the past 2-3 years).

Klaus Weber and Tina Dacin’s special issue of Organization Science“The Cultural Construction of Organizational Life” (complete with word cloud) — broadly relates to these issues as well.
