hoosiers think about 9/11

WTIU news in Indiana ran a feature on remembering 9/11, which touched on topics like transportation and security. The clip above features a number of Hoosiers, including myself, commenting on 9/11 and its consequences for daily life.

  1. The most pedantic analysis of terrorism ever. No thank you.

  2. Maybe so, but Fabio is a hottie, is he not?

Television news is shallow, by its nature. The words and pictures stream past. Even now, we do not routinely approach video as we do a book, referencing, cross-checking, with notes off the page or in the margins. Moreover, you can make money from writing and publishing a vicious book of narrow interest. (Ann Coulter and Al Franken are both evidence of that.) The local TV station has a different mandate: they touch many buttons, but very softly…

I write for pay. I often break into a publication via the letters page. I think that I am pretty good at 250 words. It would take me three days of hard work to so summarize my perceptions of 9/11. Pearl Harbor or the Lincoln Assassination or the Death of Socrates would all be much easier because they did not really affect me.
