  6. I’m just arriving now because of Teppo’s tweet.

    To answer: I’m a process coach (an academic writing coach specifically) and independent scholar. I think I’m to take it that makes me a “non-academic”.

    So a quick comment on the presumptions underlying the survey.

    Like commenters above, I’m surprised undergraduates are apparently assumed not to read the blog at all (or are to be considered “non-academic”.

    It’s also interesting that there’s no option for scholars, like me, with no institutional position (“academic” = grad student, post doc, or faculty). And contingent and honorary faculty are apparently expected to identify simply as “faculty”. (As honorary teaching fellow, should I count myself among “management faculty”?) This reveals some interesting sociological assumptions.

    More importantly, the granular distinctions within the academic readership strike me as over-the-top when compared to the plain “non-academic” for all org-practioners. Why no interest in whether top or middle managers read this blog? Or management consultants? Or people who work in NGOs? Or social movement activitists, etc.? Or politicians? Or military personnel?

    Don’t say it says “Please list in comments”, obviously one is not going to be “counted” there. That all of us are simply NON-academic says something, I think. Maybe it’s what you want to say. Or maybe you just haven’t thought it through. I note, finally, that the “please list” instruction wasn’t even proof read.
