new journal: strategy science

Screen shot 2013-06-05 at 2.49.36 PMINFORMS is launching a new journal: Strategy ScienceDan Levinthal (Penn), current editor of Organization Science, will be the new editor.  The set of senior editors are excellent.

Given the folks behind this effort, and the backing of INFORMS (they also publish other excellent journals: Organization Science, Management Science), I think the journal will immediately do very well.

Here’s the official announcement.

Not completely unrelated: here’s a previous post on another new journal, Sociological Science.

I think both journals will do very well – though it is sort of an interesting matched pair/comparison: one launching with the backing of an existing publisher, INFORMS, and the other going the open access route.

  1. Organization Science’s title has always bothered me, and now there are two more journals with the same affliction. There are perfectly good suffixes for those noun roots.

Why couldn’t they be “Organizational Science”, “Sociological Science”, and “Strategic Science”?

Elsewhere, it’s ‘Chemical Science’, not ‘Chemistry Science’; ‘Psychological Science’, not ‘Psychology Science’, and ‘Proceedings B: Biological Sciences”, not “Biology Sciences”.

  2. I’m pretty sure the new soc journal is “Sociological Science,” not “Sociology Science.” So, at least they got that one right: http://sociologicalscience.com/

  4. My guess is that strategic science sounds more like a way of conducting scientific inquiry and less like a study of strategy.
