sociology blog list
The website “Best Sociology Programs” has a list of 30 soc blogs. The list covers some of the usual suspects (like this blog, Kieran’s blog, or Phil Cohen). I also learned about some bloggers that are new to me, like Deborah Lupton (“This Sociological Life“), Zero Anthropology, which focuses on postcolonial communities, and Neuroanthropology, which is self-explanatory and run by PLoS One.

These websites are SEO content farms designed to promote online degree programs. They generate lists and listicles of this sort—Best Sociology Blogs, Top Online Professors, Most Prominent Sociologists on Twitter—in order to draw links from … well, from blogs like this.

Kieran’s explanation helps underscore the obvious lack of face validity, when the best sociology blog is relegated to #29 and described as “lives and musings.”

Andy,
Surprising that an SEO link farm would bother to calculate and present both “R” and “S” scores, but there you go.

Any page with the words “online degree” in the subtitle is illegitimate.

They seem to have improved the algorithm a little. I wasn’t included in the last edition, and Robert Reich was.
