Omar Lizardo
Omar Lizardo – I’m an Assistant Professor of Sociology at the University of Notre Dame. I was born in New York City, spent the better part of the first 17 years of my life in a small coastal city called La Romana on the Southeast corner of Dominican Republic, and have lived in the U.S. ever since. I received my B.A. from Brooklyn College and I earned my Phd in sociology at Arizona, under the supervision and mentorship of Ron Breiger and Al Bergesen.
My areas of research interest are sociological theory, the sociology of culture, sociology of organizations, network theory, microsociology, world-systems analysis and the philosophy of social science. More specifically, my research deals such diverse topics as the social determinants of cultural taste, the relationship between culture consumption and social networks, the globalization of forms and styles of cultural consumption, the social and cultural bases of collective memory, the social determinants of patterns of emotional experience and expression, globalization and collective violence, and the sociological correlates of gender differences in religiosity. Some of my articles has been published in Sociological Theory, Poetics, and The Journal for World Systems Research. A forthcoming article will appear in American Sociological Review.
