In the summer? Not Vegas, Miami, St. Louis (I grew up there, it is so bloody humid). Not Scottsdale! Think north. But then, I’m not going. So, live it up.
They’d better decide something soon or all of us peripheral types aren’t going. I wonder what all of he smaller affiliated orgs are going to do? Did SSSP, ABS, ASR, and other groups with meetings coincident with ASA also bail on their contracts?
It seems like the powers that be should decide on a location before paper submissions are due. I’ll go to ASA this year wherever it is (as long as they don’t change the dates), but for a lot of people the location and cost of travel to the location matter.
More generally, I think it is ridiculous to require full papers 8 months in advance of the conference.
Almost everything about it is broken — requiring finished papers eight months in advance, a twenty-page limit, not holding people to present the paper they submitted/was accepted.

Maybe we should create a new category, ASA complaining. I have three or four posts I’d like to write in that vein.

Go for it, Brayden. We can’t let Scatterplot corner the market in that category.

Where’s Detroit, MF? Many potential “bed and breakfasts” available, and it’s practically Canada.

is Taos some kind of joke about RWJ’s annual conference, which apparently requires a three day journey by pack mule?
