the fancy colors of herbert bayer

I recently had the pleasure of spending a few days at the Aspen Institute, courtesy of my new fellowship. The institute is decorated with prints and tapestries by Bauhaus artist Herbert Bayer. He was responsible for the first attempt at a “universal typeface.”

Bayer was also a practitioner of dada-style collage. This one is called “Profil en Face” from 1929:

The institute was decorated with items that resembled this (Chromatic Twist 1970):

And this one, called Four Segmented Circles 1970:
